Th...I'm not saying we 'create reality'. There is an objective physical reality without our presence - after all, we've only existed in the last blink of the Universe's entire history.

But here's the thing: reality for you personally, only exists while you're conscious. When you're unconscious it ceases to exist, FOR YOU.

In effect, we have a relationship to reality that we take for granted. Before you were born, there was no reality and after you die there is no reality (for you). Important point. Without conscious entities to observe it, the Universe has no meaning and no purpose. Paul Davies calls it 'the absurd universe', and I agree with him.

As I said in another post (might not have linked it): To be self-realised, a universe requires consciousness, otherwise it’s effectively non-existent.

Why is there something rather than nothing?Paul P. It doesn't matter who's watching.

Or? citizenschallengehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04559990934735912814noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3427479692989285926.post-42149267135690989102017-10-19T17:10:50.475+11:002017-10-19T17:10:50.475+11:00Hi Nat (from memory). Is that you?

Did you ever get around to reading Elvene? It's over 10 years since I published that as well. Btw, you can find me on FB as well, under Paul P Mealing.

That letter I cite in this post was published in Philosophy Now. They have a 'Question of the Month' which I sometimes respond to. Over a number of years, they've published 6 out of 7 that I've submitted (they usually publish 12 or fewer). Naturally, they're all posted on this blog, and the last one was called, What sorts of things exist and how?, which is also the title of the post. It's an English magazine that I subscribe to (highly recommended if you're interested in philosophy) and so they get submissions from all over the English-speaking world. You can find them on line, obviously.

I wrote a post recently and got a response from the author of the book I reviewed, even though I was critical of some of his conclusions. He's from California (as I mention in the post).

He wrote something on FB as well, which was quite flattering.

Happy to get in touch, as always.

Best regards, Paul.Paul P. It's great to see you still thinking on these topics Paul, and further, delving deeper and deeper into them.

I don't know if you recall me, but we use to be in touch via our two different journeyman philosopher blogs, with myself blogging on Today.com at the time!

I was just going through my collection of books, and found the copy of Elvene you gifted me. It is a shame we have fallen out of touch; my fault. The memories I hold of our philosophical conversations, are still held in great warmth.

Send me a message at my email address! I would love to get reacquainted.
TheHappyColourhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13363682225931823607noreply@blogger.com
